Balancing Act

January 10 - February 23, 2002

Opening date:
Thursday January 10, 7 pm

Balancing Act invites viewer participation in the construction of a group of three-dimensional blocks made from two-dimensional photographic images die-cut into flat pattern shapes. The photographic images represent a range of moments from our everyday experiences — serene, bustling, mundane, poignant, urban, natural, noisy, sensual, public, private. Depending on which side of each pattern the viewer chooses to have facing outwards, each person ends up with a different configuration of images. The elements of choice, balance and play involved echo the ways in which we each negotiate day-to-day life, trying to achieve equilibrium between a multitude of experiences, demands and needs.

Artist:

Cheryl Pagurek received an MFA from the University of Victoria in 1992. She has shown her installations, sculpture and photography in solo and group exhibits across Canada: in Victoria, Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, Hamilton, Toronto, Kingston, Ottawa and Montreal. She lives in Ottawa, and gratefully acknowledges the financial support of the City of Ottawa for the production of Balancing Act.
